How does it work?

A consultation is an opportunity to discuss your concerns, explore what might be going on for your child, and come up with some ways to improve the situation.

You can bring any concern, big or small, that relates to your child’s learning, wellbeing or behaviour.

A consultation is a structured conversation. Helen will first clarify what you would like to get from the consultation and will then guide you through the process with your goals in mind.

Common topics include:

  • Mental health concerns (e.g., anxiety, low mood)

  • School avoidance

  • Social/friendship difficulties

  • Attention difficulties

  • Special Educational Needs

  • Difficulties with organisation and home/school routines

  • Challenging behaviours

  • Issues with attachment and relationships

 FAQs

  • Helen will send a summary of the conversation by email. This is not the same as a report and is only intended to be a useful reminder of the conversation, with links to any additional resources or information mentioned.

  • If your concern relates to something in school, it can be helpful to involve your child’s teacher and/or the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo). If you would like to involve your child’s school, please contact Helen before booking, as different arrangements may be needed.

  • It is usually best to bring one topic for discussion, as the consultation involves working through a process together. If you have several concerns, we will discuss the most important concern first. If there is time left, we can discuss any other concerns in order of priority, although these discussions will likely be in less depth.

  • This is a standalone consultation service that does not include any further work. You may be interested in other services offered by Helen Jones Psychology, in which case please get in touch or book a free chat with Helen separately.
